Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Help with OCD

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a very common condition.  OCD UK estimates that as many as 12 in a 1000 people suffer from this condition. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder can occur as a symptom of other conditions like autism etc. but it can also occur on its own.

Despite lots of research, it is still not known exactly what causes it and it is stated that it can be a combination of neurological, genetic and environmental causes. Either way, it can be very debilitating.

The sufferer can experience extreme anxiety if they do not carry out certain routines and tasks that they feel a strong urge to carry out. Some individuals describe it as making them feel weird or not right if they don’t carry these routines ou.  OCD  thoughts can sometimes be quite irrational.  Consequently making the sufferer feel isolated and affecting their quality of life.

Hypnosis and OCD

Hypnotherapy can help to teach Cognitive Behavioural Techniques to the unconscious mind so the individual learns to challenge the obsessive thoughts in their mind; bringing the OCD under more control.

Here is a poem about suffering from OCD by one of my clients.

Taps

tap OCD

Dripping Tap

Tap on tap off Tap on tap off Tap on tap Tap Tap
on tap off Tap on tap off ap on tap off on tap off off offffff
Was the water too strong, did the clunk belay a
washer about to give up? What would Brad Pitt do?Bathroom mirror glare an unwanted stage.

Ignore it…casually off…..casually on, mechanical
off, say the word off the lightest touch, the
hardest task.

The doorbell rang, Kylie called from age-old
hot panted dream, your 911 purrs on the driveway.

Still, she grasps you…just a little check, a joyful
playful (no harm in that surely) on off, on off

whisper whisper….it’s silly really.

Sing the song laaaa the canter begins, a special last eye closed
don’t look back its unlucky – go this time.

Back back away; a little look, no no.

(thank you Andy for letting me share this poem)
